The building was constructed in 1985 specifically for the Party Archive of the Perm Regional Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. Over the past years, the Archive has repeatedly changed its name, and since 2017 it has been called the Perm State Archive of Socio-Political History. At the moment, the Archive is the main repository in the Perm Krai for documents about the stay of Grand Duke Mikhail Alexandrovich in Perm in 1918 and about circumstances of his murder committed on the night of June 12-13, 1918.

The archive funds contain more than three hundred documents related
to the Perm period of the life of Grand Duke Mikhail Alexandrovich and his execution, as well as to the participants and organizers of the murder.

In August 2017, the archive funds were replenished with a set of documents
of the secretary of Grand Duke Mikhail Alexandrovich Nikolai Nikolayevich Zhonson transferred to the Archive by his great-nephew.

Based on the documents from the funds of the Perm State Archive of Socio-Political History related to the stay of Grand Duke Mikhail Alexandrovich in Perm in 1918 and the circumstances of his death, the archive staff prepared a collection of documents and a mobile exhibition dedicated to those events.

Since 2019, the Archive has been actively involved in the preparation and holding of the annual Perm Scientific and Educational Readings The History of the Imperial House of Romanov organized by the Perm Krai Government, the Perm Mitropolia of the Russian Orthodox Church and the Elisabeth-Sergius Educational Society. Collections of materials on The History of the Imperial House of Romanov Readings are prepared for publication by employees of the Perm State Archive of Socio-Political History.
